Autumn Clematis

I have an autumn clematis and its full, lush and beautiful HOWEVER it always blooms the middle of June. Have I really got an Autumn Clematis? The small white fragrant tiny blooms are just like an autumn clematis. Any ideas? Are there others similar and I just got the wrong tag when I bought it?

Could you post a pic or two of the blooms or plant? :)

In your zone, I hardly think what you have is terniflora or SAC. Most probably you have virginiana, ligusticifolia, or possibly even vitalba. The leaves of the plant are quite different between terniflora and virginiana. Pictures would help rule out terniflora based on foliage alone since terniflora has smooth leaf edges and virginiana has serrated leaves.

Here is a link that might be useful: Virginiana on COTW

Could it be Recta which looks like Sweet Autumn and blooms in June. Can't remember if Recta has any fragrance or not.

Clematis recta is a much smaller grower and doesn't vine, don't think it could be confused. Most forms sold have red foliage too.

My recta is shorter and has green foliage. I have read that it doesn't vine but mine grows up the trellis and into the pine tree.

The flowers look like the Sweet Autumn.

Clematis 'Rouge Cardinal' & 'Recta'
