What a beautiful clematis. Does yours have any fragrance? Mine doesn't start to bloom until the middle or end of September. It is my last hurrah for the summer. My clematis always go out with a bang that way. I just love it.

Beautiful. My SAC blooms late September with a wonderful fragrance. I have mine in semi-shade so it doesn't get as large. Is that just one plant? Got a new SAC with a plan to have it grow in my large fir tree out front.

Second year, huh? Just wait.......you'll see just how large this vine can really get :-)) Give it a couple more seasons and that little arbor will be totally engulfed, as will be anything else nearby. But yours is lovely in its current setting.

I am seriously considering removing my SAC. It is going on 20 years old and each season grows to 25+ feet in all directions. It is planted on an old iron screen section (a piece of architectural salvage) that is 8' tall and 6' wide and outgrows this support very early in the season and then moves on to invade anything else nearby - my old apple tree, a butterfly bush, a mock orange and burning bush. While it is beautiful in flower (mid September for me, usually) and fragrant, it has just become too large and with too short of a bloom season to be a real asset. And I cut it back to nubbins each winter :-) I think I may replace it with a clematis with a longer bloom period and a less aggressive nature. And a more vibrant color would be nice, too :-))

gardengal, glad to hear form you, I like this SAC but , it
doesn't have a scent and blooms later than most. I may replace it with a jackmanii, I have had one of these for
several years and it bloom a long time . Dk blue/purple
SAC needs much more room to climb on, altho I cut it back
several times as it was growing, maybe that just made more
vines ;) Happy gardening , caroline
