Mushroom compost / manure

I'm always a bit leary of using manure, I tend to have a heavy hand, or in this case a heavy shovel. What would be an ideal amount to incorporate? I had used a ratio of about 2 or 3 parts manure to 7 parts peat moss and soil ... I think and hope this should be fine?

Are you top dressing or ?

Is is composted manure or fresh?

Are the Clematis established or newly planted?

Never use fresh manure!

Does your soil need the acidifying effect of peat moss?

Hi buyorsell888 ...

"Are you top dressing or ?" ... I'm incorporating the manure throughout the entire soil volume.

"Is it composted manure or fresh?" .. this stuff is composted and seems rather rotted down, though has a few "fresh" pieces that I toss aside.

"Are the Clematis established or newly planted?" ... most are large established plants.

"Does your soil need the acidifying effect of peat moss?" ... my soil is silty and chalky and adding peat moss seems to really benefit it, things then grow very well.

If the manure is fully composted then you really can't burn your Clems with it. They love organic fertilizer so your heavy hand is fine.

Thanks buyorsell888 ... the clematis are now being planted into deeply prepared and well enriched soil. I'll report back next summer on my success, or lack of :)
