ID this Clivia?

I finally found my picture of the Clivia my mother in law gifted me. This is it in bloom this summer. She had it approximately 20 years. And never knew what it was or had any advice on how to grow it! She was growing it in regular miracle grow potting soil. Sorry for the odd angle, I didn't know how to resize it.

RE: ID this Clivia?

It's a very attractive clivia miniata like the large majority of clivias in cultivation around the world. It is very unlikely to be a named variety because those were very rare and expensive to acquire in this country 20 years ago. Even today, full grown registered clivias usually sell for $100 and up.

These days a lot of growers give their clivias names, but most of them are not registered cultivars that breed true, like roses or lilies. You can see clivias that have been registered in the Clivia Society Register.

RE: ID this Clivia?

Thank You for the information!!! Just recently I found out this was Clivia. All this time I was thinking a type of Amarylis. Which I was close! But glad to know exactly what it is.
