They look like something has been chewing on them, but they don'y look too bad. They are far from being perfect specimen plants, but the are going to flower, so they must be pretty healthy. They may be getting too much sun.

Sure does look like something is munching on them. Try going out at night, you might see what then. Mine looke like it was getting a bit burned and I found out that they like shade... I had it under a deciduous tree and the sun is hitting it now... I too am in SO CA. I will be moving it, once I figure out where!

clivia....can be tricky to bring to bloom. Long time between flowering for this BULB. Cut back the foliage and put in a cool dark place for as long as a couple of months. Keep the plant cool as you can make it, new foliage will result. Then bring into good, but not direct light. You can do this anytime.

In Southern California the cooling period might be hard to come by. You might put off the this action until weather conditions are favorable. An unused refrigerator that can be set at a high degree might be tried.

Yikes. Clivias are not bulbs. They ARE primitive relatives of amaryllis, but *primitive* is the operative term here. No bulb is formed.

AFAIK, clivias should never have their leaves cut off unless that leaf is seriously diseased or seriously ugly from some other sort of damage. They certainly shouldn't be cut as a part of bringing the plant into bloom!

OTOH, the cool period does promote bloom. But since the plants in question already have buds on them, you've obviously got that part covered already!
