Your source is correct. 12/14 leaves id about flowering age. 9 Leaves is still too young. Sorry. Another year maybe?

Claire, everything I've read and experienced states 7-8 year old plants before blooming. I don't know if this includes the dwarfs, only standards.
When I started my miniata in 82 from seeds, it took 7 yrs before blooms. And like I said, I've read this in plant books, too.
The only plant I know of that's suppposed to bloom w/a certain amount of leaves is the Bird of Paradise. I believe it's at least 8 leaves before bloom. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this to be true..I sure hope you guys are correct, cause I've two other Clivias that have 5 and 6 leaves..one yellow flower one variegated w/orange flowers. Toni

I'd much rather believe 12 to 14 leaves than 7 to 8 years! I'm not sure how old mine is; I got it at Logee's in person before they started offering them in their catalog. It's probably no more than 4 years old now.

Now I just have to resist buying more clivias while I'm waiting for this one to grow up, it's pretty crowded in here now that the houseplants have come in for the winter.

Claire, a while back someone from antoher forum and I were discussing Logee's Clivas..she bought one from them, stating they were 1 1/2 yrs old..Don't know if this helps or not...I hope you guys are right about the 12-14 leaves, because I've two youngin's..it'd be nice to see them bloom. One yellow flwoers, the other is variegated.
But the Clivia I started from seed in 82 too 7-8 yrs before its first bloom..sigh..Toni
