To start clivia seeds place them on top of well aerated mix and press down slightly - just to make good contact.

Keep them moist and warm. Light is good, but not too much as clivia are low light plants. I do sometimes remove the membrane at the radicle end because it speeds up germination, but it's an iffy practice because it can allow rot. If it was my first go around, I'd just let nature take it's course.

You can harvest the seed from the berries when the berries color up and have a bit of give to them. This is one, a yellow, that I harvested seed from.

You will want to remove the membrane around the seeds and soak in water with a couple of drops of peroxide for an hour or two.

You can do this soak on the gifted seeds, too. I usually do. If they look particularly dry you can soak for 24-48 hours.

What does the peroxide do for them? Sterilize the seed?

I agree--the seeds should be started close to the surface. Just remember that a dried-out clivia seed is a dead clivia seed.

I started a batch of seed in straight peat moss, and got amazing root growth after a year.
