turning 18 hole mini golf course into 18 individual gardens

For a service project, our girl scout troop would like to turn an old and unkept 18 hole miniature golf course into 18 individual gardens. The boro owns the property and has given us permission. My first thought is to identify 18 various types of gardens, such as 1 hole could be a perennial garden, another an herb garden, another a rock garden, etc. Has anyone out there ever attempted a project like this? I don't want to get in over our heads. I think the labor involved could present a problem but I do plan to approach the boro about getting "free labor" from their summer staff to help with the initial prep work. Any thoughts, words of encouragement, ideas, etc. are welcome. Thank you.
Jackie

My day job is in landscape architecture and open space planning and I think this is a wonderful idea - how cool! However, I do think that an 18-hole golf course is an ENORMOUS undertaking. I would suggest considering only doing 9 holes to start with and looking for other organizations in your area to partner with, such as seniors groups (which could be neat too for your girl scout troop to have an inter-generational community project). Best of luck!

Urban_Allison, I agree that this is a wonderful idea! If it were a full-sized golf course, it would also be enormous. However, jkirby mentioned that it is a miniature golf course. I don't know the precise dimensions of a miniature golf course, but the ones I've seen just driving by 'em haven't seemed that overwhelming for a Girl Scout troop (and I know: I was one back in the Dark Ages...). Maybe they can get a landscape professional to help with the layout?
