Anybody know where I can get barrels

As part of a community project, the National Honor Society chapter at my high school is considering putting planters at intersections and sidewalks etc. Does anybody know of typical sources for cheap wooden barrels or anything else that can be used as an efficient planter.

Wooden barrels aren't cheap. How about the buckets that restaurants get pickles in or builders buy various things in? Both are free if you ask the right people. They aren't much to look at, but might take a coat of paint. Don't forget to drill lots of holes in the bottom.

Well hopefully this isn't to late to help but - check with your local fire department. In my area they get their fire foam (to use on firefighting efforts)in 55 gallon barrels. Ours are a pretty blue color, you could cut them in half and have two half barrels to plant in. They are tough plastic with lids etc.... Fire foam is just soap based so it's easily washed out. Just a thought.
