Just gettin' started

Yep, it's spring. The birds are chirping, the grass is growing and it's raining, it's raining, it's raining. it's raining, it's raining!
If the rain ever quits we'll have our community garden back in operation. So far, no luck.
Last Friday it was beautiful. Our friendly neighborhood farmer went out to spread manure for us and work it in.
Saturday, a group from our gardening committee went out to mark out the plots. We got a little better than half done when we ran out of stakes. No problem! We'd just quit until Sunday afternoon and return with more stakes.
Well, I got the stakes cut and ready but it started to rain. It has rained every day since. Damn!
Gee gardening is fun.

| So do y'all re-mark the plots every year, or are these new plots? We have people who've had the same plot for 10 years and have terrific perennials going. Of course, down here there's at least a little gardening going on year-round. (We have two short "winters"; everything dies in July or August as well as in January.) If it's any comfort, it's been raining non-stop here, too; our monthly work day has been postponed three times. Tomatoes, which are just getting ripe, are exploding! |

| Anna... I'm in exactly the same situation here in Bergen, Norway... I am much more of a follower than a leader and I don't know if I'm at all up to 'rallying' the troops, so to speak, but there's not anyone else to do it. If you find any good resources online for getting funding, finding land, dealing with bureaucracy, insurance issues etc, I'd LOVE to network with you (or anyone) and share info. Regards, Annie in Norway |
