How do I find about a community garden in my area? I live in NJ.

Check with your county--I just found a community garden near me and was curious, asked the people I saw there gardening. They directed me to the office of a nearby county park, where I signed up. We pay a $30/year fee to rent a 20'x30' plot, but rules, regulations, fees, and plot size vary greatly.

The park districts around here (Illinois) are the ones to contact. They roughly plow up the plots, and supply water for a nominal fee.

Or try your local cooperative extension. I think the one for NJ is Rutgers Cooperative Extension.

The best soure I have found is to identify the Land Grant College for your state and get the phone number of the Extension Office in your county. Also, you might try any 4-H programs near you, they are traditionally organized by the County Extension Office. My county in Indiana has a specific program for community gardening...let me know if I can be of any more help...Laurie
