Garden in Sunset Park, Brooklyn?

Posted by Amina z6 ny (My Page) on

Hi,
A year ago I moved to the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn. Does anyone know where the closest community garden is located, or how I can locate local people who would be interested in starting one? (I am near 40th St. and 5th Ave.)
Thanks

Hi Amina,

I don't know if this will be of use, but the Nat"l Community Gardening Assn. has some good info, and if you go to the below link and scroll down, you'll get some links to NY community garden info. Check out the "community garden mapping project" and see what you come up with.

Good luck,

Carrie

There's one on 6th Ave and 15th Street. Just last weekend they had a plant sale/bake sale. They were actively soliciting new members. I strolled through the garden -- nice people, good atmosphere.

Hi Amina,
I'm not aware of any in Sunset Park as such, although closer to Park Slope there are several. The aforementioned 6/15 Green is one of my favorite places in Brooklyn. You might want to have a look at the Council for the Environment's gardenfinder below. Goodluck!
