roll call

I thought it would be interesting for those who frequent this forum to let everyone else know who they are, where they garden, and what their interest is in community gardening. Someone posted a "roll call" message on our regional garden forum recently and we've had a lot of fun with it, getting to know each other.

I'll start.

I'm gardening at a small community garden in Atlanta, Georgia. I was previously a member of someone else's community garden and had some problems there, but I can't complain now because I'm a founding member of our new community garden! So if we're having problems, I guess they're my fault!! Our garden is new and we have space for only 11 garden bed, but we have 9 of them built and planted already. We're an organic garden where local neighbors can grow food for their families. My interest in community gardening comes from having a very small yard with almost no sunny areas to grow vegetables, and from wanting to share gardening experiences with my neighbors.

We have a garden website and I've posted a link to it below.

Here is a link that might be useful: Rose Circle Community Garden

RE: roll call

Vincent from Portland, Oregon. I've gardened at my own places quite a lot over the years, but due to an injury I've been off work for a while and had to move to an apartment. I planted a few flowers and a couple tomatos... no more room!

I'm registering for a community garden plot in the suburb of Beaverton next week, hoping to get one of the raised beds (so I don't have to bend over so much. Oooh I feel so old...)

Our climate is great for Fall and Winter crops of things like Chinese greens, chard, collards, etc. and there's time for a few other things too.

RE: roll call

Tally in Galveston, TX. Just took over as chair of our small community garden. There was a fight over melons this summer & most of the people quit. The ones still there refuse to do anything. They will be paying a monthly fee starting next month. Right now you just have to pull some weeds & help keep the garden clear, but noooooo!
I'm pushing for an all organic garden and devoting some of the space to raising things for our plant sales & the farmers market to pay the bills at the garden. The water & electricity aren't much but we've had to pay a yardman to trim, pull weeds etc. Thus the new user fees. Our garden is used for National night out, picnics, etc. Being a semi-tropical barrier island we can pretty much have crops year round, heat tolerant in summer! Okra loves us!
Tally HO!
