| I guess you've seen the news of the riot police shutting down L.A.'s 14-yr-old urban garden? Today's democracynow.org has pretty good coverage. It looks as if the garden group will formulate a legal challenge to the owner for destruction of property and lack of permit to bulldoze. |

| It/s definetly a sad thing. Darryl Hannah the famous actress was arrested protesting the closing on june 13. A small mention of it is under her name on the Wikipedia website. The city should really step in and help the gardners. I hope something is done to save them. |

| Latest news. The bulldozers went in again, and have mowed down the northern half of the farm. They will go and do the southern part. Starting Friday, there will be rallies and actions to raise awareness. The movement continues, and their latest statements are demands for secured community farming space in the 9th council district. They have been offered plots outside of the district. They want the green space where it's needed: in the district with the least green space per person, with heavy loads of pollution. Please support the farm. Write a letter to LA City Hall. |

Well we wouldn't want the land to be useful would we? After all weeds or concrete are SO much better for us than those nasty old vegetables. Better for the kids to be in gangs and/or selling drugs than working in the dirt. I'm totally disgusted with "developers". And those that support them! Tally hO! |
