The Gilder Community residents FINALLy have their garden!

After four years of tirelessly trying to find funding the residents of Scarborough's Gilder Community Housing have finally got their garden! But it came from what most people would consider an unlikely player...KIA CANADA.

KIA decided to do something different with their ad dollars and actually drive change in communities in need, for the Gilder Community it was the garden they all wanted.

On Saturday July 17, 2010 armed with community members, volunteers and a dedicated crew a garbage dump filled with old tires, mattresses, junk and dirty needles was turned into a beautiful community garden filled with plants, vegetables, benches and a shed.

It was a truly wonderful transition, which we can all watch in this great little time lapse video:

The residents now have access to safe, and affordable produce AND a safe and beautiful place to spend their time!

This is a really great feel good story that you can find more info about here:

I checked in a few days ago, and the garden is fully thriving too!!

Kinda stupid of them to park those cars in the entrance, wasn't it?

They should have left room for the trash collecting truck, the lumber delivery truck, and the truck with the dirt delivery.
