Mazus Reptans protection/winter

No forum that I can fine. But the search led to many conversations NOT including my query. Mazus Raptans protection over winter. I was advised to do so as it is Z5 per Bluestone. I've in the past used pine needles on all of my beds and with great success. Would this hold true with Mazus too?
I also wonder if my Day Lily leafs/fronds??? if dried out would work as well. I bend my Syberian Iris over to protect whatever is underneath and it worked well also; which leads me to believe the Day Lil's cuttings would be adequate.
Thought and help More Than Needed and Appreciated as well,
Jaemy

RE: Mazus Reptans protection/winter

M reptans comes from the Himalayas and is said to be hardy from z3 to 11. It might lose leaves for winter (a bit like Tradescantia) but will probably pop back in spring.

I think my concern would be around good drainage/frost heave, but if it is being used as a groundcover among bigger plants, such as your daylilies, then it is likely that there will be portions already under cover. If it has made it into the lawn then that will probably also proved shelter.

You may, however, also find it prudent to pot up some portions as 'plugs' for replanting next spring if you can provide light and barely damp conditions over winter.
