Is that the Hamilton area? Here's a site with lots of info on setting up a community garden. It's in the US not Canada, but the organizational aspect remains the same. Cheers from Quebec. Tim

Janice,
I work in Toronto, working with community groups all over the city to facilitate community garden start-up. I have written a very comprehensive manual for the Ontario Ministry of Health that covers just about every aspect of community (or allotment, if you prefer) gardens, from organizing the group to horticultural info. The title is 'How Does Our Garden Grow? A Guide for Community Garden Success'. Many libraries in the province have the book so you may first want to check with your local branch or even get them to order it for you. You can also order the book directly from FoodShare, the non-profit orgnization that I work for.
I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have about your particular situation and if you live near Toronto, you may want to attend Toronto Community Garden Network workshops about a variety of c.g. topics. You can write to me at laura@foodshare.net and I'd be happy to put you on the network's mailing list. Also check out our website (still under construction) at www.foodshare.net for many other food security activities besides community gardens.
Regards,
Laura Berman
