Stupid question - Corn and Beans

This is going to be not only my first garden since I was a kid...but also the first time trying companion planting...So, I have something of a stupid question about planting beans with corn. Everything I've read so far has said it's a great idea to plant the 2 together.

My question is...beans are supposed to be full sun, however, because corn has to be planted pretty close together to be able to pollinate well, won't that effect your bean crop? I would think that the beans are getting very little sun because you are supposed to plant between the corn rows.

Does anyone have any personal experiance with this? Does the bean crop suffer because of the shade of the corn....or do you just plant only on the "outside" of the corn blocks (rather in between the rows of corn) so the beans still get plenty of light. Or...does it not affect the crop of beans at all when you plant between the rows.

Thanks much for the help!
