Do you think I could plant zinnias with watermelon?

I was wondering what would happen if I plant my zinnia seeds, and after they grow a little, I plant my watermelon seed in the same area. I was hoping to get kind of a ground cover from the watermelon leaves....to keep the weeds out around my zinnia. But do you think the watermelon would just take over and try to climb the zinnia and therefore maybe just destroy them? Anyone try this before or have any advise? Thnx fellow gardeners!

If you are going to deadhead your zinnias for continued flowering, keep in mind you are going to have to step through the watermelon to do so. Plus the watermelon are very aggressive in their growth and it would take constant attention to ensure they don't smother the zinnias.
