I've never noticed any effect on adjacent plants. The only consideration would be to make sure you give that rhubarb lots of room!

Last year I had a volunteer tomato grow up between my rhubarb leaves and it was the only tomato in the last decade I've grown without blight.

I have Rasbberies, Oragino, leeks and Horseradish growing in my rubarb bed.

My only problem is how can I eliminate the slugs that seem to like the rubarb so much

wow this was an old thread. what i've found the most successful slug repellant i've used so far is brewed coffee deluted with water. it has to be reapplied after rain and sprinkling, but its really good. i live in quite a wetland area and still managed to grow beautiful hostas. i mix about 1/2 cup coffee to a letre of water.
