Companion Plants

Carnation in vegetable garden?

I accidentally bought a carnation today as a companion plant instead of a chrysanthemum! :) I have seen that carnations can be subject to all sorts of wilt. And I'm reluctant to introduce that into the garden. Should I go ahead and plant it, or return it to the store?

I forgot to mention that this is a vegetable garden.
