Hollyhocks with Phlox David/Laura

| I'm a new gardener and i think I'm attracted to the cottage Garden look. I've been obsessed trying to decide what perrenial plants to put in my sunny flower bed.
I was wondering if anyone thought it would be ok to mix Hollyhocks double chater(yellow) with Phlox David and Laura for the back of a sunny border bed. My bed also has oriental poppies with babies breath and shasta daisies. I was then going to fill in all the gaps with zinnias. I've heard from other gardeners that their phlox has taken over their garden and I don't want my hollyhocks to die because the phlox takes over.
any suggestions are welcome thanks! |

| I'm not familiar with Laura, but my David (white) and Nora Leigh (violet with variegated foliage) are at least a foot shorter than my hollyhocks, and that's without pinching it back in June/early July. My phlox is not invasive at all -- and I've never seen it described that way in books -- so I'm curious to hear from others. |

| I don't think phlox is invasive.... and remember in a cottage garden not to worry too much..... the phlox would look nice....... so long as the flowers are fairly old fashioned....... they will look nice in the cottage garden look...... and remember some herbs and plants in old pots and vines on old trellises....... :) ..... |
