That is a funny question. I am not an expert, but I have an idea. When you cut the blossoms, bury them next to the plants that you wish to protect (tomatoes or whatever). I am guessing too,that you will get more blossoms, so this seems like a tedious cure to keep the smell down... But an interesting one! Good luck!

Are you sure that it's just the blooms that you notice the smell of? I know for a fact that if you break the plant stems/leaves they smell worse than the flowers do... so I would think that when you take the flowers off you'd be releasing more of the "smell" that you don't like... maybe get someone else to do it for you?

Oh gosh, I love the smell of Marigolds!

I got used to the scent of marigolds over time. One year, before I was used to the scent, I went looking for the skunk I was sure must be in my yard! My produce garden is full of French marigolds to help with insect pest control. The flowers are striking, as you can see in this photo. I decided the trade-offs of beauty and insect control were worth getting used to the scent.

Marigolds also last longer than mums in fall arrangements.

I love their scent, but if you truly can't abide it, I suggest a clothespin!
