| Scarletdaisies- I didn't have squash planted, but pumpkin. Same family, I believe. I had about 5 or 6 vines planted in one bed, a 3 or 4 foot walking aisle on each side, then a bed of sweet potatoes on either side of the pumpkins. I also planted several marigolds interspersed amongst the vines. The sweet potatoes seem to be doing great, in spite of all of the rain we have had this year. The pumpkins have been decimated by the dreaded squash vine borer, accompanied by the lovely squash bug. Just this week I pulled the pumpkin vines, pumpkins that were affected, and the mulch and bagged them for trash pickup. I then tilled manure, chopped leaves, and some lime to prep for next years planting. The sweet potatoes do not seem to be affected by any of the pumpkin problems. I won't know for sure for a few weeks yet- when I dug up the roots. I don't see any signs of any problems. Hope this helps. I researched, but couldn't find any info on what to plant with sweet potatoes. |
