hakonecloa macra aureola and Oregon grape?

Anybody think these two would make good companions? They are drastically different leaf shapes, but I think my hakonecloa would benefit from being in a more woodland atmosphere, more shade and moisture.

I've got hakonecloa grass in the same bed as Oregon grape. They're not next to each other, but I think they would be fine together. Doesn't mahonia have yellow bloom in spring? The yellow of the grass would pick up that.
