Mine are growing and blooming together with no complaints. They are in the same border, but are not immediate neighbors.

Don't believe everything you read. Gardening seems to foster a lot of "old wive's tales", some of which are unfortunately repeated through time in books written by people who have done no observation or experimentation of their own.

I grow peonies and roses together, actually side by side, they are beautiful, neither one complains and everyone exclaims they look stunning together!
