 o
suggestions for caressa holly & dwarf pigmy barberry?

I live in GA zone 8b inland. On the back side of my house in the corner I have daylilies planted and they don't get sun in the summer until after noon and then a large tree shades them later in the afternoon. My kitchen window which I am at often looks out on this and I would like a shrub that is evergreen to go with some foundation shrubs that are right next to this daylilie bed. The two shrubs that are there are three caressa hollies and about five dwarf pigmy barberry. I was thinking of something that would complement these and that is hardy and would be able to tolerate some sun and more shade. Is there a small conifer that is hardy that wouldn't get more that two feet tall? I hope I have been able to describe adequately for you to see the situation. My house is an L shape. The area I am speaking of is on both inside angles of the L. The left out side of the L is east as the right outside is the west. I do appreciate your suggestions on this problem. Thank You

"Caressa holly" sounds like a name for a blue movie actress. If it will grow there Picea mariana 'Nana' would be the right color and habit to contrast with the dwarf purple barberries. Or maybe there is enough light for Juniperus squamata 'Blue Star'--again, climate and soil permitting.

Baarberries are on the list of plants we are asked not to include in our gardening. The birds take advantage of the berries which then sprout and crowd out indigenous plants.
