Euonymus companions

I have 2 yellow-green variegated euonymus shrubs in a small island bed that I want to renovate. South-west exposure, sun almost all day except for middle morning / late afternoon (shaded by house and tall privet hedge respectively).

I plan a backdrop of green miscanthus (Gigantea or similar, definitely not variegated). What else should look good with these? I need something between the two shrubs and maybe in he foreground? I would say hostas would look good, but they will be burned by all that sun, won't they?
