Can winter rye be used as a living mulch for spring sowed/tansplanted companion plants. If so, how? and what is the care required?

RE: Can winter rye be used as a living mulch?

I use winter rye every year just to give my yard some green and to have something rooted on bare spots. It will die after 85 deg. You need a real sharp blade on the lawnmower. It will get tall and just let it fall over. Need to water the seed almost 3 times a day untill it sprouts. Didn't answer your question did I. LOL
