A group of six of us met up along the ways to visit the gardens of Randy Dykstra, Bickelhaupt Arboretum, & Dave Horst's garden. It was a wonderful day with good weather.

I almost mail ordered myself Picea pungens 'Blue Waters' last year needing something blue and globose but not wanting the very nice but ubiquitous 'Globosa'. It's great to see an actual picture of one. Looks like a nice slower grower. Ooh, aristata WB. Looks like fun. Thanks!!!

It's often hard finding places to get these guys so I hope I'm not spamming by posting a link to where to get one.

    Dax,

What a treat to visit those three gardens. I visited all three of them a couple years ago. I'm hoping I will get to see them again this summer.

Did you happen to see the 40 year old Picea abies 'Inversa' at the Bicklehaup? That was my favorite conifer there. I sure hope mine will eventually look like that one. BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks for sharing your trek through the Iowa gardens.

I know Bickelhaupt's 'Inversa' quite well, lady. Been over in that corner many times. If I were looking for a place to build a nest as a bird, that'd be the spot. It reminds me of a jungle gym for the kids or adults.

    Simoni,
The W.B's were plentiful, but the scions were not. Still a friend sends a scion to another. Plus the many wonderful seedling W.B.'s and cultivars, the day was excellent, indeed.

God save you Dax for keeping the Chub Harper Heritage with your conifer stuff. Great time for american conifering.

Wonderful specimens. I really like the Pinus flexilis 'Ginger Quill' in situ as with all of these plant. Just perfect how and where they are. Well captured for us.

Btw, Dax you look like a powerlifter ;)

Marshall, he was collecting scions for himself.
He has strict rules not to collect for the Arboretum...

Thanks and I guess I understand that. But the reason I asked - his arboretum has a sale every May with offerings of various unusual plants and I was sort of hoping maybe some of these would be showing up in a year or two.
