Pinus sylvestris, 'Aurea'

| I was in Vancouver, Canada last week and saw this tree at the VanDusen Botanical garden. There was just a trace of snow left.
That's a Weeping Giant Sequoia behind it.

| Not a dwarf. Van Dusen used to have several in the heather garden and may still do. As with other pines that turn yellow in cold weather it's quite a neat feature, the yellow coming on during the dull season and backing off during the summer, when it might be tiresome. With yellow forms of this species in particular the yellow and blue together on the same leaves can be very pleasant. The 'Aurea Robusta' ('Aurea' misapplied) cultivar of blue Atlas cedar also shows this same combination. |
