Simoni, also this time I'm very glad to see the original broom and a propagated one of it, very nice!

The following one arose as a seedling selection in The Netherlands which was found at a Christmas tree plantation.
It's original name is 'White Tip' but was renamed in the U.S. as 'White Tops'.

    Edwin,

I saved your photo and you wrote 'White Tips'. I still assume that 'White Tip' is correct?

    Thanks,

    Dax

Dax, something comes to my mind that the nomenclature rules for cultivar names found after 1959 always must been written as singular names.
In this case it will be 'White Tip'.

The same counts for Podocarpus lawrencei 'Red Tip'...

Picea omorika 'Tijn'. Purchased under that name - I assume it's the same as 'Peve Tijn'

    Thanks Edwin.

I've never heard any rules about plurality. I appreciate the info though.

Yep, Alex. 'Peve Tijn' is the name to keep.

I'm a begin fan of the classic 'Bruns'. Shows of the colors quite nicely.

Great 'Bruns'. It looks very nice and happy before the drought. I almost forgot what that green stuff on the ground was.

Here's my Picea omorika 'Peve Tijn' this spring. What a great little ball of sun. It's a repeat but you can never have enough 'Peve Tijn'. Mine has burnt again this year but is still strong and healthy. I'm not sure wether I should move it out of full sun this fall or leave it and hope it will eventually grow a large enough root mass to not burn. I've read that it can take full sun but maybe not hot southern Indiana full sun.

Will, I don't think your's is true 'Bruns' because it's way to blue for a Picea omorika at this moment.
I would like to see another pic later when the needles are hardened off...
May be you've a pic which was taken last autumn or winter?

Picea omorika 'Pv Tijn' (one of my favorite conifers ever due to its tri-color effect with the typical blue-green contrasting needles of the species and the golden color represented by this particular cultivar)

Growth was a bit weak this year but it has a nice bud set!

Let me know if you think its something other than 'Bruns'.

Fat buds are so good to see aren't they?

  • whaas_5a

Yes, and speaking of which my Picea orientalis 'Aureospicata' and Abies koreana 'Horstmann's Silberlocke' set buds on last years growth. Those are the two that sent out very limited growth but many cones. Glad I was patient with those two!

  • coniferjoy

Will, yep that's a true 'Bruns'.
The upright needles of this year growth are showing it's silvery underside which is a typical characteristic for this cultivar.

  • whaas_5a

    Technically the silvery topside! :p
