To my knowledge, there hasn't been a previous photo gallery dedicated to junipers, so let's try it out and see what happens!

    Sam,
Junipers are really not in the foreground nowadays. Probably they are waiting for better times. Till that times enjoy please the junipers of the Arizonica Arboretum.

Here is my Juniperus communis 'Kalebab' snuggled in with his friends, waiting to be planted. He is happily in the ground now, and pushing new growth.

Zsolt says: "Junipers are really not in the foreground nowadays".

    I agree..mostly true.

There are some true gems out there not to be overlooked.

    Dave

Juniperus horizontalis 'Blue Pygmy'. A miniature evergreen conifer with deep blue foliage. One of the most dwarf of all conifer selections. Prefers full sun in well drained soil. 5" tall x 8" wide in 10 years. Hardy to -50 degrees. USDA zone 2. Buchholz.

    Edwin,

About 10 years ago a guy from another group of internet conifer people sent it to me. When I asked him about it he said that he could not tell me of his source. It became evident to me that he was just starting off as a seller and didn't want any competition. I tried many times, he wouldn't budge. I can tell you it roots, therefore, I believe you may be correct about it being more than virginiana. That thing was (10 cm) 4" tall when he sent it. It is so heavy with berries each year it's unlike anything I've seen.

In my country, Juniperus are very popular. This is because they grow in the wild - in grasslands and forests and are very durable. It s one of our national tree - communis, of course.

I wanted to show you one of my first plants, with which I started. It has already been 20 years and it is 3x transplant. Endured floods, home building and puppy attacks :) Maybe without these problems grow even larger.

And at times, if you're interested, there are some pictures. In my garden there are many juniperus .... :) This is not all.

    Ireena,
try to plant the intensive spreading junipers in the neighbour's gardens.. :) By time they kill the garden. Not long ago I cutted out a Juniperus virginiana Grey Owl after 30 years with 30 meters diameter. Thats a place for 300-500 brooms.

The J. squamata Blue Sweede is originally a Hunnetorp from 1976, SWE. Maybe it was renamed at UK intro? I have no datas to the breeder.
Severside, or anyone in the UK, please, what about this story?

Zsolt, you are absolutely right:)) Many of my trees went to the neighbors or the street side. But now I've found a solution. My little garden will remain for rarities, and especially maintained plants. I've inherited 7ha land - forest 4ha and meadow 3ha. Now I get out there to build my own "arboretum". There also will be able to safely planted large plants. It is 70 km from me - not so far away. There is the 5-4 zone ... Picea and Juniperus there feel good :) I have extensive experience in tree transplantation. I've done it dozens of times (oh, my poor spine :) I have big plans, will start slowly, then we will see...

    Ireena

P.S. About Blue Sweede - I don't know - on nursery mark was that name... And all other our nurseries using that name...

Ireena, 'Blue Sweede' must be written as 'Blue Swede' and is a synonym for what is 'Hunnetorp' indeed.
The 'Hunnetorp' wa found as a seedling selection by Holger Jensen of the Ramlosa Plantskola (= Nursery) in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Juniperus x media 'Gold Star' is the old name for what is now Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Gold Star'.

Zsolt, it's to bad that you removed your big old 'Grey Owl'.
I would made a special project out of it.
It's my hobby to create topiary conifers as well.
Here is my result made of Juniperus x pfitzeriana 'Mint Julep' aka 'Sea Green'

    Ireene,
if you can graft or propagate, you have an unlimited credit for scions. 7 hectares is a quite great place for great dreams.

    Edwin,
some more infos to Hunnetorp. Its a seedling of Holger (1946), also known misspelling is Hohlendorp, probably from Germany. The Blue Swede was introduced by the Scott Nursery into the UK.

Yep, the friendly alliens has landed here at my nursery and parked their UFO's nicely in a row.
This visit was just before the 35 ACS members visited my nursery at September 9th.
All together last week was a very special foreigner visiting week for me :0)

Zsolt, Juniperus squamata 'Hohlendorp' is a misspelling for what is 'Hohlentorp'
The 'Hunnetorp' wasn't introduced by the Scott Nursery into the UK, but was introduced by the Wansdyke Nursery from the U.K.

Whats up with the growth on 'Blue Swede'?

    Looks very intriguing...almost like reversions.

I typically don't like junipers but there some nice ones in here.

My 'Blue Swede' were transplanted several times due to my house building and installation of ground heat pump. And after the great flood 2010th, looked just the dead. Then I cut him a bit and tied up some branches, because he's all sunk in the mud. Now they successfully covered the ugly bio severage overlay and feeling happy:). But I lost only 2 conifers - big Chamaecyparis lawsoniana and Juniperus squamata Blue Carpet.

Here are some pictures of what my conifers had to endure...

All garden was dug up -

I was all ready to post a photo of a cute juniper but Irenna's flood pictures make every thing else seem irrelevant. Hope your family, neighbors, home and pets survived as well as those beautiful conifers did.

We're considering a geothermal heat pump too...maybe I'll get lucky and they'll dig in the lawn area, creating a new conifer bed in the process!
