You're a mind reader Dax, I actually had your specimens in mind when I wrote 'exotic'. Must have been blinded by the Lime Lights...

'Lime lights' is sure to be a super star. I believe the only competition in terms of lasting spring flush is Pinus contorta 'Taylor's Sunburst'.

    Thanks,

The LLs seems to have a young species shape but without a conspicuous leader, are you assuming it will grow upright? I like the 'Tortifolia' also but it would be too large for me.

"Munsterland" not E, area of Munster in Deutschland.

    Clement, I am simply following these instructions from Edwin;

Severnside, 'Munsterland' was correctly written as you put two dots above the u, if you can't do this then you've to write an e after the u so it will be written as 'Muensterland'...

severn, don't add an "e". Edwin what are you doing? You're going to really screw names up adding a letter to compensate for two dots.... not a good idea.

Lime Lights has made a leader (and) like all my nordmanns, it takes a long time in my soil to establish, it's the same for my other seedlings, etc-. I expect two more years, and a very noticeable leader will have arrived.

Good stuff on the LL. We'll see if Edwin puts his clog down about the 'e'.

How's your Abies nordmanniana 'Aurea'? Shown in last year's gallery.

rispetto, 'Barabit's Compact' must be written as 'Barabits Compact'.

Dax, of coarse you have to replace the two dots for an e!
The German language is the only language which is using an umloud (= 2 dots above a letter)
If you can't write these dots then you've to put an e instead.
You've to do your homework first before you mention here such a stupid thing about screwing names!!!
How about Picea omorika 'Guenter', this is the English version for 'Gunter' with 2 dots above the u...
Please, understand that I know what I'm talking about!

Also Clement is wrong this time, may be he don't now how to replace the dots...

A few years ago we could use an umloud here at this forum, but since a while this isn't possible no longer...

ok. I only don't want to make mistakes. For me only knowing English, I wouldn't know if when two dots always implies German or if another language (may have the two dots).

My last name Edwin is roots of Bavaria-Germany. "Herbst" meaning the season of Fall. Now I'm curious since the letter "e" has dots sometimes or? (not?) if my name written in the German language, does it have umlauts - is it written anywhere with two dots? I ask of curiosity? Do you know?

Umlauts appear on certain vowels in German. They are used to modify the sound of the vowel in the word in question and can also be used to designate a plural of a word.
The German word "Herbst" meaning autumn or fall does not feature an umlaut.

The German printing conventions state that "the pronunciation differs greatly between the normal letter and the umlaut".

What is the correct pronounciation of 'Muensterland' - is it "Myoonsterland"? I have a small graft and would like to know what to call it when talking out loud.

Severn, ALL of your plants look unbelievably happy! I can see 4-5 year old needles on your young 'Golden Spreader'! I barely have some 2 year old needles on mine, but not much...

Good job on your soil mix and caring man!

Thanks Fotis, the mix is the one recommended by Josh (Greenman) and has served very well in this record wettest year. The 'Muensterland' in the top photo isn't as happy as it seems there, the colour hasn't darkened off, though no other signs of stress are present. It'll be planted out in the spring which is often a rememdy for pot unhappy plants.
