Crossed (x) cultivars Photo Gallery 2012

As these are small sub groups I thought they could have a collective gallery. I'm sure there are some very cool ones people have.

Not rare but I love the minty colour, Abies koreocarpa (x) 'Festival'

This is more like it, the galleries have come home. Brilliant cultivars you've shown there Sam and explaining how the cross is made up (and the names behind the initials) is a good idea, mine was obviously Abies koreana x Abies lasiocarpa.

Just bought a 'Jane Kluis' and did not realize that it was a cross, thank you. That is a lovely specimen. Here is my 'Wiethorst' - also rather small but I just fell in love with it. Will be interesting to see how it shapes up as it grows. The needles are so long and graceful.

    Abies savonlinnensis x
I found it wild as a small seedling 1991 in Savonlinna, Finland as a mix of alba and lasiocarpa. Small gracilis habit, short needles, small cones, bright green.

Nate has a nice youngster of this, grafted in 2011. Thats the only propagation ever of this mixy beaut.

Pinus parviflora x pumila 'Negishi' (behind the small mugo)

    Thank you, Fotis!
It was difficult to find one here. It was found as a witch's broom in Oregon state.
Edwin (coniferjoy) would know if it is available in Europe.
That's an interesting hybrid pine that I have not heard of before.

It was discussed before in a pinus parviflora gallery. Edwin said it was a cross and indeed the buds look like pumila. I was lucky to find two of them in a greek nursery. I picked the nicest one. He told me he imported some plants for a guy that used them as bonsai. He didn't know much about this plant and his price was fair for such a nice specimen. Outer rootball looked good as well.

Abies cephalonica in Oregon state? kinda wet there isn't it?

Abies cephalonica does fine here as long as it has well-draining soil.

Also, this witch's broom was found as a hybrid between A. cephalonica and A. nordmanniana that can tolerate moisture.

By the way, that is a very unique plant, and a good story to accompany it!

    Hello,

We discussed the saga of Franke and Barney several months ago. Here's the link.

Thank you Dave. From what I understand it is not clear yet which is correct.

    Best regards,
    Fotis
