Landscape Photos

Hello Folks -

I would like to ask for people to post photos of their landscapes, showing groupings of conifers along with other plant material. I just think it's fascinating what you guys and gals do with your creativity. I know people have posted photos before, but perhaps we could consolidate these photos into a single thread. I think this would be very nice.

I recall seeing great photos from Dax, Ken, dansgarden, bluespruce, etc. I know I'm missing lots. (Please ID what we're looking at in these photos if you will.)

I don't know if this should be done here or in the gallery section.

Thanks!

PlantMarker

Natural landscapes are the best . . . Pinus cembra at treeline in the clouds in the Swiss Alps :-)

From one opinionated guy to another...Resin you got to be kidding.

Here Plantmaker... this is probably what you are looking for. Some of us don't own mountain ranges and land for large forest plantations so we do the second best thing... collect and display for the pure enjoyment of it.

Dave

Here...this should even things up.

Hi Dave and Dan -

Thanks so much for the photos! That's exactly what I'm looking for. If you will be so kind, as time allows, please tell me the major cultivars I am looking at in each of your photos. I just love your creative mixture of color and form.

Pineresin, I agree. Left alone, nature paints the prettiest, jaw-dropping landscapes. I'm looking for man-made landscapes in a more compressed area in this instance.

Many thanks!

"please tell me the major cultivars I am looking at in each of your photos."

Plantmarker, thanks to your request, I'm expanding my horizons and tackling new functions on photobucket. Here's my first attempt at adding text to a photo. It takes me forever, which is why I only did one, but as I get better at it I'll try to do the other ones. I used a slightly different photo from a week or two earlier in the season.

Hope this helps with your plant selection in your own landscape. Maybe not quite as close to the house or as close together ;). Dan

Dan, is that bright yellow groundcover (towards the lower-left corner) ... is that a Sedum? I planted Sedum 'Angelina' last summer and its been spectacular for me. And the winter colors are simply amazing. In the summer I saw Bright Yellow, then lime green ... then this summer, orange, red, amber ... wow!

You did a nice job adding those names ... thanks for the labels.

When I see gardens like Dave and Dan's ... I'm awestuck. Simply beautiful guys!

I need to get a skylands ...

Hi Dan,
what is the picea pungens(?) on the second photo in the middle?

RE: Landscape Photos

Sorry for the late response bunkers and sprucebud. Since this wasn't my post I didn't get the prompt via e-mail to check it. Bunkers, you're absolutely correct that is Sedum 'Angelina'. It grows like crazy for me as well. I usually have to take a few handfuls of it out each Spring to keep it from getting too crazy. Also, thanks for the compliment. Sprucebud, the Picea pungens in the second photo is Picea pungens 'Walnut Glen'.
Botann, thanks for sharing the photo of your beautiful garden, stunning as always.

Mostly conifers

RE: Landscape Photos

OMG! Your gardens are making me fall in love with conifers. I have some areas I would like to plant to make a garden like any of these. The problem is I live in the highdesert and it is difficult to get most plants to grow here. It is over 100 in the summer, hot dry and windy with freezing nights followed by 60 degree days in the winter and our rainfall is about an inch a year. Does it take a lot of maintenance to keep these beautiful gardens within bounds?

stompoutbermuda...You should post your request on the discussion side of this forum.

A lot of knowledgeable people abound there to answer your questions...Resin just to mention one.

Hi Dave,
In your first photo headed "Here...this should even things up" please can you identify for me the large picea omorika and the weeping blue spruce in front of it. Thank you.

RE: ID and photos

Thanks, Dave. That is such a wonderful Serbian Spruce. I admire your planting style and design in your garden.
