These pines are native to the western US and Mexico. They produce edible nuts, and have a wonderful fragrance.

Some really nice looking plants. Out of cusiousity, would they do okay in a less arid environment?

'Eureka' looks great. That will be a little gem in a few years.

Totally agree. Love that grey colour in sun, makes me think of arid places that we don't have here.

Thanks again Nate, your plants are fantastic, your tours are equally so.

Alex, no problem growing them in humid environments.

Dax, you calmed me about humid environments for monophylla:) Our climate and soil not dry or rocky:) Rather, just the opposite... But I bought little 'Tioga Pass' this summer and very worried about its growing.

Ireena, It looks like yours is doing well so far.

There are a number of miniature cultivars of these species available from High Country Gardens right now, that look really interesting. But they're rather pricey ($30 for a 1 yr graft) and they're labeled with the cowboy hat, which is their way of indicating that they will not do will in humidity. So far, these factors have combined to prevent me from buying.

    Here's a link in case anyone's interested.

Thank you, maple, for info, but I doubt that they would send plants to Europe :) In my country there is no good option to order plants online. I drove the car all over Europe to buy something new:)

To improve drainage, I'll try to mix coarse gravel with soil. And less watering. This means that it is planted next to another drought-loving plants - such as Pinus aristata ...

Ireena, sorry to learn that you have no source for online plants - can you recieve shipment of plants from other European countries?

As you surmised, the source information was directed at US-based forum members. And it looks like someone was paying attention. Since I posted that, the two selections I had my eye on have become sold out.

I hope we do not get in trouble now for engaging in 'Discussion' here on the 'Gallery' side :^]

High Country Gardens currently has all their plants 15% off.
I splurged and ordered a few of their dwarf conifers...
