| What about the really rare species of fir trees and their respective cultivars? They are some of the crown jewels of many conifer collections! This is a great way to share all of our bizarre firs.
Abies squamata 'Flaky' (from Conifer Kingdom)
even at a young age, a three-year graft can exhibit the beautiful cinnamon-colored flaking bark that is typical of this species. This quality coupled with its thick, blue-green foliage makes for a beautiful, rare fir!

Recently The Gee family, Henk and I visited Clement and we found out that the Abies squamata 'Flaky' isn't differend from it's species. It's common name is flaky fir which was going to live it's own life with 'Flaky' as a cultivar name... |

| I guessed that that was the case, but I figured I would give Buchholz the credit.. -Sam |

| You guessed wrong, this is not a matter of giving credit, it's another way to create a mess in conifer naming... |

According to Edwin, Abies squamata "Flaky" are not a cultivar, but just the true species. The name flaky are added to make the difference with some plants grafted some years ago under this name but they are not right. Clement |
