| Surely the very unique Japanese Umbrella Pine is deserving of its own photo gallery. I'd like to see some rare, special cultivars you have!
I'll begin by sharing this dense species tree that is 3 meters tall.

Ireena, I'm glad that you got at least one conifer of my "Filip Collection". :0) Unfortunately Malik is using the wrong potting mix for the Sciadopitys that's why it doesn't show it's true dark green needle colour... |

| I hope that by the time I will have something of "Filip Collection":) I just planted them in late July. Generally, I definitely have no experience with sciadopitis cultivation. These are my first. Yet using standard conifer soil. Would very much like to know what soil they like best? The composition .... Ireena |

Ireena, the big secret for growing nice dark green needled Sciadopitys is to plant them in a very sour soil. It has to be planted in pure peat, you know, the stuff were people plant their Rhododendrons and Azaleas in. Doing this right now the result will be visuable next year... |

| Wow, thanks for the info, Edwin! Turns out it's as simple as that? I read somewhere that sciadopitys needs a sour, HEAVY soil... But, of course, your advice is valuable, because you have great practical experience! I am very much conifers plants in acidic peat mixture. For spruce and thuja I still add on planting hole "self-made compost". Now I will not attack them, but I can replant in the spring. However the now they are also planted in peaty soil, but planting holes are small - temporary. I've become a sciadopitys fan! Your Mireille is fabulous!! I hope that they will withstand our winters. The first winter I set them defense... If my two will feel right to me, then I definitely would expand my sciadopitys collection:) Thank you, Ireena |

The extra-thick needles of 'Sternschnuppe'. In Germany, Sciadopitys seed was irradiated, and this interesting cultivar with doubly-thick needles was produced. Its name means "shooting star" in German.
