Expedition to the Seetaler Alps, Austria

New finds in Southern Austria, North of Klagenfurt, near to the classic Turrach mountains, where up to the last years several Pinus cembra brooms were discovered.
Last week four gentlemen of Cesko went to the Seetaler Alps, which was earlier not detected for cembras. Jan Weihrauch, Zdenek Novak, Frantisek Adasek and Frantisek Borovec formed the discovering company. They all are well known for cembra hunters.

Seetal means Lake Valley in english, a small lake where a little river is starting. The arena view is perfect over 1800 meters.

The first broom was a special one as Frantisek told me. The origin is not the usual bud mutation, but a kind of virus pest, which changed the growing activity anyway. Such kind of brooms are fertile, bring no cones. Found by Frantisek Borovec, this find is his 22th cembra broom.

Beautiful country!
Beautiful brooms.
I like the high altitude forests.
