Norway Spruce Under Stress

We live in southwest Michigan in a heavily wooded area with very sandy soil. (4 blks from Lake MIchigan) A landscaper planted (6) 10-11 ft. Norway spruce trees last May to act a a border screen from neighboring property. There are many similar conifers in the area. We watered with a drip hose for 12hrs every other day for approx. 6 weeks. The summer was fairly wet and not hot. All trees candled and grew since planting. Several of the trees have had their tops turn brown and the centers are dying. The landscaper is not returning my calls and I'm afraid that the trees and money are lost. Any suggestions or hope would be appreciated. I'll try to post pictures.
