30 yr Leyland cypress

This is one of two Leyland cypresses I planted ~1977 in Hagerstown, MD. Earlier I thought this was around 70' -- looking at it closely it's more like 60-65' tall x 35'+ wide. The other Leyland's foliage is just visible at the upper left. These are 'Haggerston Greys' and look to me much more like Monterey cypress than Nootka. Asthetically there's nothing in these areas equivalent except maybe the largest Virginia junipers or E arborvitae. These have taken -20F in Jan 1994.

Not "pushing" Leylands -- in fact, this should demonstrate that they should never be planted in tight screens or small areas.
