    Great selections Ron,

Ferny Creek seems to be correctly named 'Ferny Creek Prostrate'. The leader may droop in time once branch loaded. If it's dead upright I dont think removing it would do any disfigurment. I've successfully removed rapid terminal growth from spreaders.

    7ern , yes,it should read prostrate
I don't know if it's rapid growth,,,guess i'll wait to spring to look real close at buds to decide.
my Barnes looked like that when I got it,,,and it's developed into nice ball.
    thanks , ron

They all look great in their situ Ron, basking in the sunshine. Are the cacti in the Ferny Creek pic native? That's something I couldn't grow in the open ground here.

    7ern , Yes you could !
That's opuntia humsomething (prickly pear cactus)
    native to Illinois ZONE 5
I used to have fair cactus/agave collection this spot,,,declined do to lack of sun,,,(growing trees)
filled spot with sand/gravel,,,,recently , dug it all out filled with soil,,,put sand/gravel under Russian sage
    lots of work,,,but whatever
where was I,,,oh yah,,,prickly pear just needs fair drainage , even grows in clay , and sun.

you guys having fun talking to yourselves in this part of the forum ... ???

i see nothing prostrate about a plant that puts up a 6 to 8 inch leader ...

and i doubt trimming out said leader will make a difference ...

we arent talking about a pendula plant.. with secondary branches drooping... the name imples a ground hugger.. prostrate ...

in fact.. on that plant... do you see the actual graft???? are we sure the scion didnt die.. and this is understock ... why the weird kink in the trunk??? i cant really tell from this pic

and.. at 9 oclock ... there is a small part that has a lesser growth rate ... are we sure that isnt the scion???

maybe i am not allowed to chime in.. ????

The lower part of the plant with the shorter congested growth looks like your desired parviflora. Just email the picture to Conifer Kingdom since you bought it from them. They'll be able to give you positive identification and they are very good about responding to customers.

ken , sense of humor ? ,,,,you mean as in everything is funny?,,,take the name,,,(please) I've killed half as many plants as I grow (400),,but that's part of the joke.

hated that name as soon as I registered,,,too late,,,bad with social media (this is social ? )

any way,,,, are we still talking about orientalis ?
will crawl around this weekend,,,get pics

A close look at leader reveals many buds,,,
