| My dear friend, Vladimir Valenta of Cesko went this September back to the Russian Far East for broom hunting. The coastal range at the Japan Sea was the area he visited, the Sichote-Alin Mountains.
He got beautiful shots of Picea jezoensis and Pinus koraiensis.
I enclose Lada's original gallery for further nice photos.

| Thank you Zsolt for posting Lada's pictures of this trip by Vladimir Valenta and crew. It is good to see so many good Picea jezoensis brooms. Much more interesting than seeing another Picea abies broom. And then one of my favorite plants--Pinus koraiensis. And so many brooms!! That is great. Can't wait to see posts of the grafted plants in years to come. Thanks to all, Dennis |

| You are right, Dennis, some european breeder say, that they would like to collect brooms of more rare specieses then Picea abies (over 2000 selections). In the Sichote-Alin Lada found over 100 brooms, but only 20 came home with the airplane. He took with only the most nice brooms. My favourite american spruce is the Picea sitchensis. It has so few known selections, that I liked to see much more of it. Maybe younger american rangers could organize some tours to collect some. Zsolt |
