Someday for some of us...

Perhaps you stumbled upon this through association or reading the Coniferite but its worth posting to get more attention. Too few views for such a tremendous work of art on a smaller lot.

Yep, that guy lives in either Ohio or Michigan. He's a pro at pruning.

It's been a few years since I came across pix of his place. These are a nice updated version.

    Thanks Will & Ken.

I might have to become a pro at pruning myself with all the plants I'm packing on my lot!

I was pretty impressed by the Acer campestre 'Carnival' and Acer pseudoplatanus 'Esk Sunset' specimens he had.

Thanks for sharing the link, amazing stuff (though I'm now suffering from sensory overload). I can't imagine how he fits all these plants into half an acre. And they don't even look crowded...

Absolutely loved his photos of the ACS Netherlands visit. Very nice!

Last January 19th Gary Gee, Henk and I visited John Vrablic as well.
He has a great and very neat garden and he's a perfectionist in tree pruning...

    Hi Edwin.

Pruning? Can you explain this a little. Can all species be pruned or candled? Or are there only some?

I will benefit from pruning also but don't know which plants I can..

There's a very good book titled Niwaki on pruning. It's specifically on japanese pruning, but the principles can be applied for your own goals. It goes in depth about different techniques for different species.

Severn, most trees and schrubs can be kept small)er) if pruned regulary.
Pines can be kept smaller by a combination of candle pruning and hand pruning.

John did all this work without a book, all was done by his own intuition...he's a real garden artist!

Thanks UnPro is that the Hobson book? It's available here so I'll pick it up.

Edwin, thanks, I have quite a few plants I probably have surplus so I'll practice on those. I should find how they react and what works.

Books teach you the basics. After that, you need an 'Artist's
    eye for it.
I like the pictures Edwin took. They show the 'Artist's eye'.
My coat looks like Gary Gee's. lol Hey, it's a working coat!

It's more the technique than the aesthetic I'll need to learn. Guess we all have an artist's eye to be into conifers..

I think that album might have made of me a conifer convert. That was incredible.

I read the coniferite and could not believe what a wonderful, natural looking group of trees he has in his yard that he prunes.

I have to chuckle when I drive by those ugly little balls or pyramidal pruning jobs some city folks do around here. LOL.

He sure does an amazing job. I hear his gardens are even more stunning in person.
