| Wow what a great boring day. :) That combo Gold Drift/The Blues is spectacular. Some stunning plants at this nursery you were visiting. Thanks for posting pictures. Cher |
|
| OK, I don't care if they're wholesale or retail, but who had Gold Drifts that large? I'd love to pass on the name to my local nursery. mark |
|
| Look's like Boyko Nursery. |
|
| Stunning. Thanks very much for sharing such a great mix of plants. I will be referring to these photos again and again for inspiration. Brilliant! Richard |

| Lucky guy Will! What a fabulous opportunity. Many of us, especially in the conifer-challenged midwest, will never see a fantastic gathering of cultivars such as that (wiping drool from the keyboard). Great photos. Thank you so much for sharing! Kim |

| Yes, some of these photos were taken at Boyko nurseries, including the microbiota cultivars. As for it's name, I'll need Bob Fincham to pop in and help perhaps or even ask Mr. Boyko himself. It might be a new cultivar. I've never considered myself very photogenic(I'm much more ugly in person!), I just typically like to include photos of myself on particularly large specimens for size comparison. I'm about 6'3", 250. I'm hoping to take many more visits to Boring, there are just a TON of nurseries there. Bob told me it had to do with the perfect soil, a deep sandy loam from the local rivers(and floods) as well as a great all-year climate for growing plants and especially conifers. Kim, that's what vacations are for. Especially since so many great nurseries are clustered within 20-30 miles, a visit to 5-10 nurseries/gardens would be both a worthwhile plane trip and easy on time/budget. Coenosiums is also about 3 hours from these gardens. Make a big loop! :) -Will |

| Will did get kind of excited on this trip. The Microbiota is named 'Carnival'. Jim has several newly named plants, all choice, that will be showing up over the next few years. A few he hadn't named, but was selling with a generic description, now have names. None of the pictures are from my place. They are from Boyko, Stanley, and Collectors Nurseries. The Cedrus libani 'Nana' picture is either 'Sargentii' or deodara 'Prostrate Beauty'. We didn't look at it close enough to determine which. Not enough time. Bob |

| Wow, thanks, Will! 'Ogon Janome' - that is a real eye-catcher...! Josh |

| There's a goofy (small, skinny scion coming out of a much wider, foot-like understock - implying some years behind the combination, with the scion being a much slower-growing kind) grafted cedar in a Seattle cemetary that a friend is helping feature their trees. Last year I wondered if the cedar might be 'Horstmann'. Then I saw a fairly large (3'?) 'Horstmann' for sale at Molbak's, it looked similar. The other day I said the cultivar would probably make a small tree in time, so I am interested in the first photo shown here. Again, it looks like the one at the cemetary. |

| Striking resemblence between Will and Blue? One is about twice the size of the other; not to mention the weight! Thanks for the nursery-tour. Super! T. And a Happy and coniferous New Year to all! |

| Not sure if that was a compliment or an insult tunilla :0) The Microbiota 'Carnival' looks very similar if not the same as 'Goldspot' ?? |

| 'Carnival' originated from a sport at Boyko's nursery so it is a different origin. From pictures of 'Goldpot', I believe they appear different. 'Carnival' has larger patches of variegation and it is a deeper shade of yellow. Pictures of 'Goldspot' show a pale yellow variegation in the summer with lessened contrast in the winter. Bob |

| Hey Blue...just playing along with Dax's picture-and-word play (my interpretation, of course!). Take care! T. |
|
| Russell's doesn't show they have any Gold Drift in stock, so were all those great specimens at Boyko or Collectors Nursery? thx mark |

| I know this thread is a bit old, but I am feeling compelled to bump it--pretty amazing post, Will! In the shot above the red truck pic...the tree all the way to the right, Pinus parviflora 'Glauca'? |
|
