I've given them each a number for IDing the foreground conifers where they appear. Any idea as to the place?

#10 is on hi-way 89 between Marble Canyon and Jacob Lake, looking east.

#12, 13, and 14 were taken from North Rim of Grand Canyon.

Fantastic Mike, thanks! It was a holiday my mother and father took in 2004, so now I can look these places up on the map...

    #4: Likely Picea engelmannii

##12-14 Grand Canyon: mixed Pinus edulis - Juniperus spp.

#6: also pinyon-juniper forest, but maybe further west (Nevada?), with Pinus monophylla - Juniperus osteosperma

    #7: Abies lasiocarpa at left

#8: Abies concolor lower right, Pinus sp. upper right

#9: Probably Pinus flexilis on the right

1, 2, and 3 all look like Zion National Park in Utah.

Great stuff guys. I can look up these places now.

Thanks Resin, It's odd because back in 2004 I had no interest in botany and my father who took these pics, apart from being an actual professor of botany lol, wasn't looking to showcase the conifers especially. He'd be thrilled to know people had seen his photos.

Thanks also for you info Dan. Much appreciated.

You realise now that I can't watch westerns now without wondering if they are riding past Pinus edulis or if Jimmy Stewart is flanked by Abies lasiocara. Lol. Happens the same with WWII era footage in Eastern Europe and the Ardennes.

Here's my picture of the same place your parents were when they took picture #10.
    Sorry I'm so late.

Amazing how those trees (I'm assuming they're Pinyons) survive on such steep, rocky slopes in the second-to-last pic. What little rain falls would run off immediately.

I'd try a pinyon, but afraid it would succumb to humid-climate diseases.

Those are all right by where I grew up, in Kanab Ut. Its always nice to see pics of home, don't get to see the red rock as much and it always feels like im home when I see it.
