If it's Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, the answer is yes. I've done it many times, taking care to get as much root as possible and water well until established.

many of the juniper and thuja ... are rootable

and you should find much info on such.. if you convert your common name to the latin .. and then use a search engine ...

the only real drawback to yours.... is the shear size of the cutting... and whether you got enough root for a 2 to 3 foot cutting ...

in general.. you would take about a 6 inch cutting.. including near the cut some 2 year old wood [different bark color] ... and treat it with a rooting hormone and tent it.. and they will root... with the tent giving enough moisture until the root mass is sufficient for the plant to live ...

and we wont know if your had enough roots.. until the heat of summer hits... and that is when an insufficient root mass.. will fail

regardless.. congrats on your find.. hope it all works out ...

BTW... i would pot them.. and leave them in full shade.. i doubt they have the roots needed for ANY full sun ...
