It's a green needle pine, Pinus edulis.
Just like Sam said, it could be allready propagated and named...

Not sure it's Pinus edulis. Hard to tell with the resolution, but I'm thinking maybe Pinus contorta.

Can you remember what altitude it was at?

I called Jerry tonight, turns out its a Doug Fir. He has never collected it or named it. He is going to try and collect some if he can get up there before June...

Wow! That looks great - I wonder how old that broom is. I'm glad you pursued this and I hope that Jerry is able to collect some wood. Great find!

If that's Douglas Fir, it has bark unlike any I've ever seen before. The bark on this tree is much more characteristic of Pinus sp.
