Actually, the correct name is now Pinus ponderosa subsp. ponderosa ;-)

Yes, I deserve a few lashes for my incorrect spelling of "washoensis". As for washoensis now being Pinus ponderosa subsp. ponderosa, where are you seeing this? Pinus ponderosa subs. ponderosa has a wide range all over the west while Pinus washoensis has a very limited range and is found only in a few spots. While similar in appearance, there are a few subtile differences that differentiate the two.

What have you decided to name your find?
The needles are so incredibly long!

Think the name we decided on was 'Galena Goliath'. The Galena is in reference to a creek that flows not too far from the area where this was found.
